Gingerbread Gone Green
When I was in Pennsylvania over the holidays I went to a Gingerbread House show. They had a category called Go Green. It's so awesome to see some people's interpretation of green. Some people covered food, some wind and some water. And people were really creative.

Look What the Mail Brought
This is a Zeiss Ikon Ikoflex, a twin-lens reflex camera made by the Zeiss Ikon conglomerate in the years immediately preceding and after WWII. It was my grandfather's. After he died my father gave it to my ex-husband who just sent it back to me. I have no idea how or even if it works but I think I might take it somewhere and see about all that. It takes 120 medium format film which I have for my Holga. So if I can get it to wrk, then figure out how to use it I could actually take pictures with it.
Science is Awesome
Why do we know so much about supply chains and so little about the "removal chain?"
And check out some other cool science videos.

A Hot Night in the Big City
It's freezing cold out and there was a fire in an apartment in the building next door. The FDNY got to the scene in about 5 minutes. The firefighters completely knocked out the windows in the apartment on fire and the one above. The water from their hoses froze pretty instantly. There was water and glass everywhere. But they put it out really quickly.
Hey Mayor Bloomberg - Please don't cut the firefighters budget!

Science is Awesome
Today is Jules Verne's birthday. National Geographic has an article about 8 of his inventions that came true. They weren't really inventions as much as imaginings. He wasn't a scientist or engineer, he said he just paid attention to his surroundings. He also worked in theater for a long time so he knew how to tell a good story. I think he might have been a lot of fun to talk to.
