Seattle

Tomorrow I'm flying to Seattle to attend a water conference for work. I'm hoping to generate a lot of ideas for the work blog at that conference. It deals with water and energy and water and irrigation which are two of our upcoming areas at the foundation, so I'm excited.

I've been through Seattle in the past but I've never stayed there. This was back when Starbuck's coffee was just getting national distribution and United Airlines started serving it on a lot of their flights. It was a big deal then. Wheee!!!

I haven't flown since 2007, since the restrictions on shampoo and toothpaste and all that stuff (thanks a f^*&ing lot, terrorists). I guess I'll check my bag, which I guess I'll have to pay for anyway. I'm not sure what to do about my camera and computer, if I should check them or carry them on board with me. It's probably better to carry them but I hate lugging the computer through the airport. This is a 6-hour flight so it would probably be good to be able to do some work, although knowing how I get on airplanes I'll probably sleep through most of the flight.

I can't decide if I'm nervous or not. It's been awhile since I've flown and six hours is a long flight. I'll be in Seattle until Friday, which feels like a long time to be away from home (and I really like my new apartment). It will be nice to get away from the city though.

My mother will be joining me on the trip, so it should be good. Her birthday is the following weekend. She'll probably go to the market and the space needle and other fun stuff while I'm at the conference. Somehow I doubt she'd be as interested as I am in "The Impact of Decentralized Water Systems on Energy Conservation and Carbon Footprint." She won't know what she's missing.
